Making Memories with a Mobility Scooter at Disney
Disney World is of course a dreamy place for kids to explore but it also attracts adults, groups and families of all sizes who have varying needs and requirements. And though most young children have no problem getting around the park, some grownups, elderly grandparents tagging along or injured family members may have physical challenges that prevent them from enjoying the Disney World experience to the fullest. But no matter your age, health or physical aptitude, your Disney dreams should never be diminished or dampened by limited or impaired mobility. The solution? A Disney World scooter rental!
Can you use a mobility scooter at Disney World?
The answer is YES! In an effort to make the resort ADA-compliant and more accessible to those who require mobility assistance, Disney allows guests to enter with their personal wheelchairs or electric scooters but they also rent them at service desks inside their parks. That’s right. No need to hobble about from one attraction to another struggling to endure sore muscles, joint pain or that nagging backache. Simply hop on your mobility scooter to get around without dealing with discomfort or fatigue. Wondering how to get around Disney World with a bad knee after an injury or post-surgery? Rent yourself a mobility scooter and call it a day. You should have no problem navigating the 4 theme parks that make up the one-and-only Disney World.
How hard is it to get a Scooter at Disney World?
Depending on what all is happening at the park, special events being held or the time of year you visit, renting a Disney World mobility scooter can be tons more frustrating, time-consuming and confusing than you might have thought. This is because Disney World mobility scooter rentals are available to guests on a first come, first serve basis and quantities are extremely limited. And since you can’t reserve or pay for rentals before arriving at the park, many visitors are left unable to rent a mobility scooter if they don’t show up early enough. Besides scarce scooter availability, there are a number of other factors to consider before heading to the park in hopes of snatching one up. For instance, the mobility scooters you can rent at Disney World have a max weight capacity of 450 lbs. This means that if you require a scooter built to withstand more weight, you’ll want to opt for renting one from a third party.

Do disabled visitors have special privileges at Disney World?
As a matter of fact, they do … in quite a unique way. An entertainment complex that welcomes people young and old, Disney World offers what’s called Disability Accesses Service (DAS) to accommodate guests with disabilities or impairments. Similar to the FastPass, this accommodation allows disabled visitors to schedule their attractions beforehand so that they don’t have to wait in line. While waiting to see a show or enter an attraction, DAS guests and members of their group can shop, rest at designated areas, eat at dining establishments, take photos to remember their trip by and more.
Disney World's disability pass: qualifying, getting, and using It
To get a Disability Pass at Disney World, you need a condition that makes waiting in lines tough, like a developmental disability, medical condition, or mobility issue. You’ll need to explain or show proof of this. Disney makes it easy with virtual consultations via live video chat with a Cast Member. Just be honest about your challenges. You can do this up to 30 days before your visit to avoid delays. The pass lets you schedule return times in the My Disney Experience app, but you can only hold one at a time.
